Brown County Planning Commission Rejects Request to Amend the Zoning Regulations on Special Use Permits
The Brown County Planning Commission met on January 10th to consider a proposal by Brown County Commissioner Reagan Wiebelhaus to make a change to the zoning regulations for Special Use Permits for livestock facilities or wind turbine towers. Planning Commission members present were Roby Woods, Wilber Saner, Linda O’Hare, Steve Bejot, Jim Carley and Pat Schumacher (Jim Jackman absent).
Prior to the open comments, the commission elected Linda O’Hare to serve as chairman and Pat Schumacher to serve as vice chairman. The Planning Commission listened as some of the approximately 100 citizens in attendance gave public comments on the proposed changes to the zoning. Zoning Administrator Brown County Zoning Administrator Tom Jones stated that the meeting was called by the Planning Commission because of a request from Brown County Commissioner Wiebelhaus to amend the zoning regulations for Brown County.
The actual verbal request Wiebelhaus submitted was: “Before issuing a Special Use Permit for a livestock facility or a wind turbine tower, it shall be required that a certain percentage of the residents within a certain distance of the site would have to vote to allow the facility or tower.”
