Gerber and Hilderhoff Crowned 2019 Polar Bear Dip King and Queen

Forty-three brave individuals weathered the 38 degree air temperature to participate in the 2019 Polar Bear Dip in the Niobrara River near Meadville. The event took place on Saturday, January 26th.

This year’s dippers came from towns in Nebraska such as Burwell, Ord, Brainard, Olysses, Ainsworth, Loup City, Stuart, Atkinson, Valentine, Crookston, Bassett, Kearney, Wood Lake, O’Neill, Gothenburg, Long Pine, Trumbull, Elwood, Gibbon, Shelton, Mitchell, Columbus, Neligh and Norfolk and from South Dakota towns of Humboldt and Yankton. Best we could tell, ages ranged from 16 - 66.

When asked about the water temperature no one was exactly sure, but in the past years it usually ranges in the 32-34 degree temperatures. The area the dippers went into was quite shallow since the current was more in the middle of the river.
