Memorial services for Doris M. Ellwanger, 79, of Chamberlain were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at the Water of Life Assembly of God Church in Chamberlain.
Burial of the ashes will be at a later date in Hillview Cemetery at Dallas. Hickey Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain was in charge of arrangements.
Doris Marie Ellwanger was born January 2, 1940 in Gregory to George and Margaret (Gall) Ellwanger. She was the seventh of ten siblings. After graduating from school, she moved to Chamberlain to find work. She first began working at the Rainbow Cafe’ alongside her sister Helen. In 1963, she began working for Frank Lindley Law Office and then in 1972 a new attorney, Boyd McMurchie, took over the office. In 1974, he decided to run for Circuit Court Judge and with that win, Doris became unemployed. She then went to work for Leonard Andera Law Office and later Steve Smith joined the law firm. When Leonard passed away in 2012, Doris continued working for Steve Smith Law Office. She worked for 55 years before retiring at the age of 77 1/2 years.
Doris was a devoted Christian and was also so happy and go lucky.
Doris passed away on March 6, 2019 at home in Chamberlain at the age of 79 years.
She is survived by her sisters Ruth McAllister of Spencer, NE, Betty Berry of Yankton, and Lucille Wiedeman of Burke; along with many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, brothers Raymond, Robert, and Harlan, and sisters Sarah Orelup, Helen Tunks, and Lorraine Palecek.
