Campbell receives promotion to governor’s security detail
The wind chill advisory wasn’t enough to keep people away from Dave Campbell’s pinning ceremony on Thursday, February 7, at Biggins Hunting Service, as over 50 family members, friends, and co-workers showed up to celebrate with Campbell as he was promoted from highway patrolman to Sergeant of the Governor’s Security Detail.
In his new role, Campbell has four troopers under him - three part-time officers who will patrol when they aren’t working with him and one full-time officer in Pierre. The security detail’s responsibility is to keep the governor secure, providing protection, driving her, and accompanying her when she travels.
When the governor has travel plans, one of the team members will go ahead to check out the facility where she will be staying and any meeting places. They will determine the best routes to get from one place to another, including any emergency services such as a hospital. In addition to providing security, Campbell’s responsibility is to make sure the governor gets where she needs to go safely and on time to make sure that she and her staff make a good impression as a very professional organization.
