Christmas memories recalled

Christmas is a time of families, traditions, and miracles. Amazing, humorous, touching, and poignant events seem to take place this time of year, more so than in other seasons. Following are some of my favorite memories as well as some contributed by others. I hope these little stories stir up fond memories for all of you.

Dad was dying. He had decided, however, that he didn’t want to spoil Christmas for us by dying on Christmas day, so he hung on, barely clinging to life. Christmas night, as I was lying in bed, I had a vision of him coming to me and hugging me. I knew then that it was time to go say our last goodbyes. As soon as I told my husband, the phone rang. It was the nursing home telling us to come. All five of us and Mom were at his bedside when he breathed his last breath at 3:00 a.m. December 26.
