County zoning classification is on ballot

This year’s ballot includes an initiated measure to change wind energy systems (turbines) from a conditional use to a permitted principal use. If voters approve the measure, it will eliminate the conditional use hearing process for structures classified as wind energy systems and turbines. Currently, the conditional use process is a means for the public to provide input. After the permit is submitted, county residents are notified of the project and there are two public hearings with the zoning board and the county commission. The commissioners have the final say in approving a project.
