Four buses and six locations don’t add up

The Gregory School District Board of Education met on Monday, September 9, 2019, at 5:30 p.m., at the high school. Because neither board chair Karen Timanus nor vice-chair Dave Shoemaker were able to attend, Bob Wik chaired the meeting.

Band instructor Jared Opp kicked off the meeting with Gorilla Good News about the band program. In grades five through eight, 96 students participate in band. At 15 minutes per lesson per student, that adds up to 24 hours of just private lessons each week. Fortunately, his wife Katie, the vocal teacher, helps with the lessons.

Fifty-four high school students are in marching band plus two banner carriers. The band has a fun show centered on a baseball theme. They will compete in Platte on September 20 and then in Chamberlain the following Friday for the River City Band Festival in addition to performing for Gregory’s homecoming.
