Grape harvest is underway
David Stahl hauled a crew of harvesters from his colony to the Gregory area on Sunday, August 26. They picked grapes at two different locations in Gregory and Herrick that day, working under a very warm sun.
The vineyards they harvested had several varieties of grapes, some of which he will keep to make wine and juice, but most of them will be sold. The main varieties were Frontenac, Marquette, and King of the North, which are all cold-climate grapes, bred to withstand the cold Midwestern winters.
