Police department now using up-to-date technology

Recently the Gregory Police Department purchased body cameras and tazers.

The cameras attach to shirts or jackets with powerful magnets. Any time the officers come into contact with someone in any official capacity, they will likely have the cameras turned on.

Using the cameras protects both the officers and the people they are dealing with. It protects the officers from someone accusing them of doing something they didn’t do, and protects the people they are dealing with by accurately recording their interactions with the police. It keeps both sides honest.

The camera is always running and will record 30 seconds of video prior to the record button being pressed. Police Chief Lafe Gildemaster said that the camera is a very useful tool, especially when the officers have to deal with calls that are complex and involve several people in one setting. The officers can write more accurate reports than when they just rely on their own memories. When they try to put everyone’s stories together, they can actually see what people said and did.
