The Rough & Tumble folk duo coming to Dixon Townhall Theatre

The Rough & Tumble, a self-styled “teeny, tiny traveling folk band” is coming to Gregory Sunday, September 22, for a 3:00 p.m. concert at Dixon Townhall Theatre.

Robert and Nancy Wirsing saw the two at the Annual Sioux River Folk Festival last summer at Newton Hills State Park, six miles south of Canton. “These two stood out,” Robert said of the duo. “They have excellent voices; they are excellent musicians; they write almost all of their own songs, and they’re interesting songs. A lot of groups don’t have the skills of entertainment. They really know how to entertain.”

So, they decided to contact them this past spring to see if they would ever be interested in returning to South Dakota, and it turned out that they had plans to be in Yankton on Saturday, September 21, and Rapid City later that week. Gregory was the perfect spot to fill their three-day gap.

The dumpster-folk, thriftstore-Americana duo, consisting of Mallory Graham and Scott Tyler, have been hobbling around the country in their 16-foot camper since 2015, when their Nashville landlord left them without heat during an ice storm for 12 days -- and then tried to hike their rent.
