American Legion Hutchison Post #6 kicks off their second century

On September 16, 1919, the Congress of the United States chartered the American Legion.

Gregory had a very active bunch of men who completed the required paperwork to organize one of the first posts in the state, becoming Hutchison Post #6 on July 7, 1919. The ground work and application for the charter for Hutchison Post was largely the work of Guy Burkholder. Eighteen members were listed on the original charter. With Gus Matousek as Commander, and Guy Burkholder the Adjutant, there were 57 members that first year. Meetings were held at the IOOF Lodge and sometimes in homes.
