County follows state’s lead in election
Election 2020 is done, and while we can’t provide official results for the nation, the results for Gregory County and the State of South Dakota are indisputable.
Voter turnout for the county was slightly higher than the state average of 73.9%, with 76% of county residents casting a ballot.
Although state results favored Republican candidates, the county’s numbers went even farther in that direction. While Donald Trump earned 62% of votes statewide, 78% of Gregory County voters cast their ballots for him.
Nationally, Joe Biden stands at 279 electoral votes, nine over the 270 needed to be declared the winner. Votes are still being counted, however, and challenges issued, so this race is reminiscent of the Bush-Gore race in 2000.
