Less than 15 years - that’s how long it takes to go from being pastor to being family

After 15 years of serving the Methodist communities of Gregory and Iona, Royal Archer has decided that his time has come to move on.

Archer arrived in Gregory in 2005, and describes 2006 as the year from hell. The church had already been through some tough times with a couple ministers who were not a good fit, and then two members died by suicide within a short span of time.

As hard as that was, Archer came to consider going through the service and time of healing with the families a huge honor. He has done services for four suicides during his tenure in the community and treats it as a privilege. “You can invite a lot of people into your joy,” he explained, “but you don’t invite just anyone into your suffering.”
