A letter buried in a file leads to a trip to South Dakota
A letter, dated 1982, tucked away in a file, and rediscovered a few months ago, spurred Dr. Lonnie Whiddon and his son and daughter to visit Gregory recently.
Dr. Whiddon, a cardiac surgeon at the time, had operated on Frank Stukel, and his son Frank (Jr.) wrote to him twice, thanking him and inviting him to come hunt. “In one of the letters he said that if you ever consider coming to South Dakota to go pheasant hunting, this is the year to do it,” Dr. Whiddon recalled, “so it must have been a stupendous population of birds.”
