Local cowboys qualify for National High School Rodeo
Local athletes competed at the South Dakota High School Rodeo State Finals on June 11 to 16, 2019 to qualify for a trip to the National High School Rodeo in Rock Springs, WY July 14 to 20, 2019. To qualify for the National High School Rodeo (NHSR) the athlete must finish in the top four of an event.
Blasius Steffen, Gregory, was the Reserve Calf Roping Champion. He placed 2nd in the first performance with a time of 10.47, 7th in the second performance with a time of 12.22 and 7th in the finals with a 14.74.
Blase was 4th in Rein Cow Horse. In the first performance he was 2nd with a score of 143.5, 4th in the second performance with a score of 141, and 5th in the finals with a score of 141. Blase also competed in Team Roping with his partner Beau Dean, Platte, placing 5th over all and just missing the NHSR by 2 points. Blase and Beau won the second performance with a time of 7.82. Their time of 7.82 was the fastest time in team roping posted during the week long rodeo.
