Newspaper Day at the legislature 2019 city financial report is good news covers many varied topics

The South Dakota Newspaper Association hosted Newspaper Day with the state legislature on Thursday, January 23, at the Ramkota in Pierre.

Addressing the attendees first was a panel of Republican leadership - Rep. Lee Qualm, House Majority Leader; Sen. Kris Langer, Senate Majority Leader; and Sen. Jim Bolin, Assistant Majority Leader.

Qualm discussed finding funds for the Big 3: education, long-term care, and state employees. Langer’s opening remarks touched on coming up with an agreement for certain medical providers to practice in rural areas. Bolin’s number one priority was to come up with a balanced budget by mid-March.
