Cherry County Board of Commissioners regarding our vote on the CUP for a Wind Energy Conversion system

The issue of Wind Energy has been long discussed in Cherry County. Much of the public testimony and public comments received by the Board of Commissioners the last 3 ½ years have focused on the merits of wind energy, Federal Subsidies, and laws created by the Nebraska State Legislature regarding lack of proper oversight and abuses of eminent domain. These are all issues outside of the authority of the Cherry County Commissioners but need to respectfully be directed to the Federal delegation and your State Senator, Tom Brewer. The issue before the Cherry County Board is limited in scope to that of local zoning laws, and the review of Conditional Use Permits compliancewiththoseCountyregulations.

The Cherry County Board of Commissioners met on October 15, 2019, to discuss and act upon the conditional use permit #003/18 submitted by Bluestem Sandhills Kilgore LLC for a 19 tower project to be developed on private property southwest of Kilgore, NE. The CUP, having been reviewed by the duly appointed planning and zoning board, and a professional zoning consultant, was forwarded to the Commissioners with a favorable recommendation for approval, after finding it to be in compliance within the Cherry County Zoning regulations.
