Valentine NWR Manager receives 20-year service pin
Juancarlos Giese started his career in conservation with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources in the Hispanic outreach program, and then moved on with state parks. His first position with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service was as a student worker at the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge complex in the Minneapolis/Saint Paul metro area, where he worked for five years in various capacities learning about and participating in environmental education and biological projects.
Juancarlos then transferred to the Rydell and Glacial Ridge National Wildlife Refuges in northern Minnesota, where he worked for eight years as the Wildlife Refuge Specialist. He worked with various partners to restore tallgrass prairie through plantings and grazing, as well as controlling invasive species on the newly established Glacial Ridge NWR.
