Work Progresses on Sand Draw Bridge

A crew has been working over three weeks on the Sand Draw Bridge north of Ainsworth on Meadville Avenue. Dixon Construction of Correctionville, IA is building the 121' bridge that will span Sand Draw.

Ainsworth Grand Theater Gets New Sign

Cathie Pankowski (left), Doug Pankowski (center) and Rhonda Theis, Vice President of the Grand Theater Board (right) stand before the Ainsworth Grand Theater with the new sign. The Ainsworth Grand Theater sign was purchased using memorial funds donated in memory of Jesse Pankowski. Jesse was a movie buff so the Pankowskis wanted to do something for the theater with the many generous memorials they received. Doug and Cathie said, “People in the community were so supportive and giving when we lost our son seven years ago, so the sign is a way to remember Jesse and thank the community.'

Scott Erthum Recognized as Weed Superintendent of the Year

The Nebraska Weed Control Association, in cooperation with the Nebraska Department of Agriculture held the 76th Annual Conference and Trade Show in Columbus, NE on February 6-8, 2023. The NWCA Annual Awards Banquet, which was held on the evening of February 7th, recognized county weed superintendents for outstanding achievement in the categories of Region Awards, Rookie of the Year and Superintendent of the Year.

The United States Supreme Court heard the States’ challenge to the Biden administration’s unilateral and unlawful discharge of hundreds of billions of dollars in student-loan debt on Tuesday, February 28th. At stake is more than the massive $430 billion-plus impact on the federal budget—the case poses a major test for the separation of powers under the Constitution.

Legislative Notes

In the seven sessions that I have been a senator, 2023 marks the fourth time I have introduced Constitutional Carry. As a freshman in 2017, I introduced a model bill from another state that was not really adopted to Nebraska. We got a Judiciary Committee hearing at the end of March, and the bill went nowhere: No debate, no votes, nothing. That was part of the learning curve for me as a rookie.

“Celebrating 90 Years” This past weekend, we went to Norfolk to celebrate my dad’s 90th birthday. Memories, sharing family history and visiting with other relatives who were in attendance made for a great Sunday afternoon.
