City of Ainsworth to Request Pine Street as Detour Route

The Ainsworth City Council voted during their regular meeting on January 11th to send a letter to the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) to express their preference of using Pine Street to Road 877 for the detour route during the 2024 Main Street project.

Last Saturday evening, January 14th, the Ainsworth Area Chamber of Commerce presented their Inaugural Gala “Denim to Diamonds.” The evening consisted of supper, outstanding award presentations, silent auction baskets and live music by the “High Heel Band”.

Legislative Notes

The 2023 legislative session is steaming ahead rapidly. As of this writing, 464 bills have been introduced, along with more than a dozen proposed constitutional amendments. With two more days of bill introduction remaining, I expect that a couple hundred more are inbound.

My observation from the opening days of the 108th Nebraska Legislature: “The fix is in!” Google it, information worth having as this highly partisan influenced session stumbles on. In the 20’s, when the term first surfaced, it meant the deal was done – probably in advance.

Central Community College 2022 Honor Lists

Central Community College has announced the names of full-time students who earned spots on the President’s and Dean’s honor lists for the 2022 fall semester. The students were enrolled at one or more CCC locations, which include the Columbus, Grand Island and Hastings campuses; Holdrege, Kearney and Lexington centers; and Ord Learning Center.

Bulldogs Participate in Valentine’s Speech Icebreaker Tournament

The Ainsworth High School Speech Team kicked off the season at the Valentine Icebreaker Tournament on Saturday, January 14th. Head Coach Heather Lutter stated, “This is a great meet to get the speakers into the swing of speech season. Everyone did a great job and improved their speeches along the way.” The team is looking forward to the Broken Bow Speech Invitational on Saturday, January 21st.

South Dakota State Fall 2022 Dean’s List

More than 3,200 students were recognized for their outstanding academic performance over the fall 2022 semester at South Dakota State University by being named to the dean’s list. To earn dean’s list distinctions in SDSU’s colleges, students must have completed a minimum of 12 credits and must have earned at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
