Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor, The Legislature wrote legislation, LB74 (NE Rev Stat 50-1501) in 2018 that exempted themselves from qualifications challenge except by one person at one specific point in time. Senator Watermeier “...the bill provides clearly that only a losing candidate has standing to challenge an election outcome or file a qualifications challenge.” (floor debate LB744, 2-2-2018). AM1801 to LB744 “... clarifies that members of the Legislature are subject to challenges under the Legislative Qualifications and Election Contest Act, and not under the election statute that applied to other elected officials.” (Senator Watermeier floor debate LB744 2-12-2018).

Ainsworth Child Development Center Receives Donations

The Ainsworth Child Development Center Board of Directors met for their monthly meeting on January 12, 2023 with five members in person and three members via Zoom. Also joining by Zoom were Tim Mettenbrink, Lund Co., Teresa Fibich & Josh Silvers of Wilkins Architect, and Melissa Polinoski, C4K.

January 29 - February 4, 2023 Sunday, January 29th Provided a civil standby for an individual to collect personal belongings after they were served a protection order. Booked an inmate into the Brown County Jail to serve one day of their court commitment sentencing.

2023 Oral Spelling Bee Held for 1st - 8th Graders at Ainsworth Community Schools

Ainsworth Community Schools held its 1st 8th Grade Spelling Bee on Monday, February 1, 2023, in the Learning Center. Students took the written test prior to the oral contest to determine the finalists. The students who advanced to the Oral Bee were: 1st Grade: Jazzlyn Navarro, Keegan O’Hare, Bentley Mashburn, Lawson Rentschler and Deakon Crane.

Can you believe it that we haven’t had any moisture this past week? It is warming up and melting some of the snow so many things are getting slick. It is nice to have some snow melt, but there is still a lot of snow left.

NCTA Dean’s Academic Honors

Ellie Welke of Long Pine is one of 64 students receiving academic honors at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture. “We are pleased with the growing number of students achieving high honors on the Dean’s List and Honor Roll this past semester,” said NCTA Dean Larry Gossen.
