With much of the state of Nebraska in some level of drought, salvaging drought-stressed corn and milo is a challenge, particularly for producers in the southwest region of the state where severe to extreme drought conditions persist.

With dry conditions statewide, natural grasshopper population controls that thrive in warm, humid weather are not as effective and the resulting large population starts to eat any remaining forage they can find. While dry themselves, pastures offer hungry insects food that they readily consume.

How much feed or hay do you have for this fall or going into winter? It seems odd to be asking this question already, but uncertainty with inflation, drought, early weaning, and cow numbers should get us thinking about this now.

Middle Niobrara NRD to Meet The Middle Niobrara Natural Resources District will hold their regular Board of Directors Meeting on Monday, August 8th, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Middle Niobrara NRD office, 303 E.

“Special Election Scheduled for August 9th” A special election will be held on Tuesday, August 9th at the Ainsworth Conference Center from 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Residents of Ainsworth will voting for or against extending Ainsworth’s 1/2% City Sales Tax for another 15 years. In 2007, Ainsworth voters passed the Ainsworth Economic Development Plan and a 1/2% City Sales Tax.

Carl Hart, NDOT Highway Project Manager, reported A&R Construction has been constructing sidewalks and grading up to the new concrete, as well as clean-up work in preparation for Phase 2 this past week.
