Remembering the 2012 Niobrara River Valley Fires

On the evening of July 19, 2012, a lightning storm rolled through the canyons south of the Niobrara River near Johnstown that ignited an area of trees in a canyon of the Niobrara River Valley. Innumerous storms frequent Nebraska throughout the summer season, each bringing their share of lightning, thunder, hail, wind and other methods of destruction.

Mike and Katie Lentz Win 2nd Week Honors for Yard of the Week

This week’s Yard of the Week winner announced by the Ainsworth Area Chamber of Commerce go to Mike and Katie Lentz who live at 1320 East 1st Street in Ainsworth. Their yard includes Maple trees that provide lots of shade. The flower baskets on the rail have beautiful petunias. They have easy to take care of shrubs with decorative rock surrounding them. In the back yard the Lentz’s have a Korean Sun Pear tree and a Flowering Crab tree.

AJ Benemerito Initiated into Bethany Chapter #113 Order of Eastern Star

AJ Benemerito (front center), son of Alvin (front right) and Shanda (back right) was initiated into the Order of Eastern Star during the regular meeting on Tuesday, July 5th at Bethany Chapter #113 in Ainsworth. Current Bethany Chapter #113 Worthy Patron Mike Hitchcock (front left) and Worthy Matron Peggy Hitchcock (back left) are pictured with the Benemeritos. Helping with the initiation ceremony were three Nebraska Grand Officers - Chaplain Mike Hitchcock, Worthy Grand Patron Wayne Andreason and Grand Warder Andrea Stewart. Grand Sentinel Dennis Rix was in attendance at the meeting.

Ainsworth Chamber of Commerce Holds “Cars” Movie in the Park

“Cars” a 2006 American computer-animated sports comedy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures was shown on the screen at East City Park on Thursday evening, July 7th. It was a beautiful night to enjoy the outdoor movie.

Chohon and Adams Recite Vows in Valentine

Hayes Chohon and Taryn Adams were united in marriage on Saturday, June 18, 2022 in Valentine, NE. Adams is the daughter of Shane and Shevaun Adams of Valentine, NE and Chohon is the son of Tom and Lisa Chohon of Ainsworth.
