Ainsworth City Council Continues Discussion on Chickens

At the regular meeting of the Ainsworth City Council on June 8th, the Council continued the discussion of amending an ordinance allowing residents to have chickens within the city limits. At the May meeting, the Council discussed amending the ordinance to allow residents of Ainsworth to have chickens within the city limits and a subcommittee was formed to draft a new ordinance and present it to the Council at the June 2022 meeting.

American Legion Post #79 Jr. Auxiliary Continue 100-Year-Old Poppy Tradition

On Tuesday, June 7th, five members of the American Legion Unit #79 Junior Auxiliary distributed poppies to Ainsworth businesses from 2:00 to 3:30 in the afternoon in exchange for freewill donations, which amounted to $573.00. The members present were Gracyn Peterson, Jaylee Good, Briley Naprstek, Katherine Kerrigan and Jocelyn Good. Amy Salzman and Shari Luther of the Auxiliary were also present. These funds are used to promote the American Legion Family Programs by helping disabled veterans and remembering our service men and women.

Suspect Arrested After Shooting in Rushville

The Nebraska State Patrol, with assistance from the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating a shooting in Rushville, which led to the arrest of a South Dakota man Wednesday afternoon, June 8th.

Nebraska State Doubles Horseshoe Championship Held in Ainsworth

The Nebraska State Doubles Horseshoe Championship Tournament was held in Ainsworth on Sunday, June 5th. The Class A tournament was The Class A tournament was won by Dale Verhoeff of Lincoln and Joshua Joey of Scottsbluff.

Ainsworth Men’s League Golf

Kevin Martin shot a 37 to card the low score for Men’s Golf League on Thursday, June 9th at the Ainsworth Municipal Golf Course. Along with Martin’s 37, other low rounds for Men’s League were posted by Jessi Owens and Graig Kinzie with 38s and Kyle Jackman and Rod Worrell shooting 39s.
