USDA Encourages Producers to Enroll Grasslands into Special Conservation Reserve Program

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) encourages producers and landowners to enroll in the Grassland Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) starting next week through May 13, 2022. Grassland CRP provides a unique opportunity for farmers, ranchers, and agricultural landowners to keep land in agricultural production and supplement their income while improving their soils and permanent grass cover.

Firemen Respond to Hay Fire at Rolling Stone Feed Yard

The Ainsworth and Long Pine Fire Departments responded to a fire at the hay processing area at Rolling Stone Feed Yard just before noon on Friday, April 8th. Hay was being ground into a hay pile and it appeared the hay caught fire during the grinding process, but no bearings on the hay grinder were bad, so the actual cause of the fire is unknown.

Rod’s Rhetoric

I would like to take this space to apologize to all of our readers. Even though it was tough to see in the picture of the AHS Senior Class on the Post Prom page of last week’s Ainsworth Star-Journal, there were at least three individuals making obscene gestures to the photographer and the picture got printed.

“Easter’s On Its Way” Youngsters in the area will be able to participate in two Easter Egg Hunts this weekend. Long Pine will be hosting one on Saturday, April 16th at 10:00 a.m.

Legislative Notes

LB 873 passed and was sent to the Governor this week. As far as tax relief in Nebraska goes, this is the biggest tax cut I have seen since I first came to the legislature in 2017. LB 873 passed because the senators in the revenue committee reached a compromise. There are a lot of different pieces to this bill from Senators Linehan, Friesen, Briese and Lindstrom.
