NDE Commits Money to Growing Readers Initiative

Children who are on track to read by third grade have a significant advantage for future learning. Families that encourage reading in the home and read with their children are critical to early reading success. With that in mind, the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) is committing $2 million to the Nebraska Growing Readers Initiative to send age-appropriate books to families and childcare providers across the state. The program will also support strategies and training for reading to preschool children, particularly in “book deserts” where access to books is scarce.

Jim Marsh (Carol Woods’ brother), pooches and Carol Woods returned to Ainsworth this past Monday, October 23rd, from an awesome site seeing vacation and visiting relatives and friends! Places visited were Carlsbad Cavern, NM; Ft. Bliss, El Paso, TX, where their Dad, Mervin Marsh received basic training before being shipped to the European Theater and invasions of WWII.

Slick conditions were reported in the area. I hope we have some Indian summer weather now after this first snow. Some people reported a trace and others about 2 inches.

Blood Donors Needed

The American Red Cross has a need for type O blood and urges type O donors – as well as eligible blood donors of all blood types – to give now to ensure lifesaving patient care isn’t impacted this winter.
