Bridge Deck Poured on the Sand Draw Bridge

After a week's delay due to mechanical issues, Dixon Construction poured the deck on the Sand Draw Bridge on Thursday, July 6th. Five cement trucks from Ainsworth Ready Mix started at 7:00 a.m.

Legislative Notes

From my first campaign speech, I ran as a Second Amendment candidate. It is no secret that winning the fight on Constitutional Carry by passing LB 77 was a major legislative goal of mine for my time as a Nebraska senator. LB 77 also accomplished another major objective: state preemption of local gun ordinances. That is something that Senator Laura Ebke worked hard for in 2015, and that Attorney General Mike Hilgers pursued when we were both freshman senators in 2017. Now our side has prevailed and these hard fights are behind us.

Hold On, Motorcycle Helmets Required Until January 1, 2024 Disclaimer: I have never owned, driven, or ridden a traditional two-wheel motorcycle. I sat on one owned by my late brother. But in more than five decades as a reporter I have covered numerous accidents involving motorcycles with any variety of other vehicles. I have seen dead bodies and spent time waiting and praying in hospital emergency rooms. I have also covered countless hours of debate about repealing the helmet law.

You likely spend more time watching them than you do with your own physician. Television shows the life of a doctor as exciting, dramatic and glamorous; however, real life is often much different.

Students Named to CSC President’s List

Chadron State College has announced the names of students who qualified for the institution’s Spring 2023 academic honors lists. The President’s List contains students with a 4.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. To qualify, students must have completed 45 credit hours, be enrolled in 12 credit hours of coursework, be seeking their first bachelor’s degree, and have no incomplete grades during the semester.

Dillon Micheel Places Second at Crawford

Dillon Micheel of Ainsworth was one of two bull riders to make the 8-second whistle at the Old West Trail Rodeo in Crawford on July 4. His 79.5-point ride was second best and paid $1,252. He was the Nebraska High School Rodeo bull riding champion in 2017.
