Pressure Canner Testing Slated for August 1st

Nebraska Extension is offering pressure gauge testing in Nebraska this summer. Please deliver your canner lid/gauge to the location prior to the date listed. All canner lids will be ready to be picked up after 3:00 p.m. A $5.00 testing fee per gauge needs to be paid at the Extension Office when dropping off your canner lids.

Sixty-Five Young Golfers Competed in the Ainsworth Junior Golf Tournament

Sixty-five young golfers enjoyed perfect weather as they participated in the annual Ainsworth Junior Golf Tournament on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at the Ainsworth Municipal Golf Course. Results are as follows: K thru 2nd Boys The kindergarten through 2nd grade boys’ division had 18 young golfers from Ainsworth, Valentine, O’Neill, Stuart and Winner, SD.

Area Students Named to UN-L Spring Deans’ List

More than 6,400 University of Nebraska-Lincoln students have been named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester of the 2022-23 academic year. Ainsworth: Megan Jo Appelt, senior, Dean’s List, College of Education and Human Sciences, nutrition and health sciences.

Thought for the week: “Being enthusiastic is worth 25 IQ points.” -- Kevin Kelly We had some high temperatures this last week plus Brown County received a good rain on Thursday. On the Beel Ranch southwest of Johnstown there were two storms that came over on Thursday and one Friday morning with over three inches of rain falling plus hail all three times. The hail stones weren’t real big but the wind was so strong that it did do damage to the crops and gardens. There has been so many bad hail storms this year in Nebraska. About .20 rain fell early Sunday morning in the Johnstown area.

State Seeks Applicants For $4 Million in Scholarships For Nurses In Training

The State of Nebraska has $4 million remaining in a $5 million program to provide scholarships for nurses and is seeking more applicants. The scholarships, up to $2,500 per student for the fall semester, are available for any Nebraska resident enrolled in a licensed practical nurse program, associate degree of nursing program or accelerated bachelor of science in nursing program.

BKR 4-H Fair Schedule July 31st thru August 5th

The BKR 4-H Fair will be held at the Rock County Fairgrounds in Bassett, NE on July 31st, August 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. The schedule for each day follows: Monday, July 31 5:00 p.m.

Ainsworth Library Announces Top Readers from Summer Reading Program

The children in the Ainsworth Public Library’s K-4th grade Summer Reading Program kept track of the time spent reading from June 1st to June 30th in the online Reader Zone program. The children had a total of 6,253 minutes reading time.
