4-H Presents History of American Barn Quilts

On June 27, 2023 the 4-H office held a workshop at the Brown County Courthouse meeting room. We had 12 youth attend the Barn Quilt workshop. The class was taught by Mary Jo McCall, office manager, with help from Cee-Anna Beel, Blaire Speck and Dorothy Mook. We had youth from Brown, Rock & Keya Paha attending the class.

Supreme Court Invalidates President Biden’s Student Loan Forgiveness Plan

The Supreme Court on Friday, June 30th invalidated President Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan. The justices, divided 6-3, ruled in one of two cases that the program was an unlawful exercise of presidential power because it had not been explicitly approved by Congress.

Do Not Miss the Signs of a Blood Clot

The patient was young, healthy, and short of breath. She had not been sick recently, other than a minor cough. Her oxygen level was normal and her lungs sounded clear. Her heart rate was a little fast and she was breathing rather quickly, too. She was anxious about it, but she knew there was more to this than anxiety. Meanwhile, she was taking an antibiotic for bronchitis which did not seem to be helping. We did some additional tests, some blood work, to look for other possible causes. One test result gave us a big clue: her “d-dimer” was elevated. While not tied to a specific diagnosis, this gave us more reason to keep looking.

Carter Nelson to Announce College Commitment Wednesday, June 28th

Carter Nelson, ranked as the No. 2 tight end and 40th-best player overall in the 2024 recruiting class, will be announcing his college commitment on Wednesday, June 28th at the McAndrew Gym in Ainsworth. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. and commitment announcement will be at 12:00 noon. Everyone is welcome to attend the commitment announcement.

Fireworks - Be Courteous During This 4th of July Celebration

The celebration of America’s Independence is a long-held tradition, now often celebrated with food, family, friends and fireworks. Fireworks stands are open for business and customers can purchase them until midnight on July 4th.
