Charles Allen “Chuck” Devall, 73
Charles A. DeVall, 73, passed away December 8, 2016 at his home in Bassett, NE. Chuck was born December 1, 1943 in Fremont, NE to Edgar and Iona DeVall. He was one of 13 children. They moved from Eastern Nebraska to Long Pine, NE in 1944, then to Duff, NE in 1950. He started grade school at the country school, District 74. Chuck continued on to his primary education at Bassett grade school after moving back to Bassett, in 1952. He attained his primary graduation in 1958. At that time he entered Rock County High School and graduated in 1962. During high school Chuck kept himself busy by working in the local hay fields and a couple of years at the Jack and Jill grocery in Bassett. He enjoyed running on the high school track team. After graduation, Chuck worked a few miscellaneous jobs and then entered the Air Force branch of the armed forces in 1965 until he received his honorable discharge in 1974. During this time, Chuck married Teri L. Hedstrom and they had two children, Chad A. DeVall and Teresa A. Devall, and one step-daughter, Venessa L. DeVall. They spent some time living in Lincoln, NE. Chuck moved the family to Crossroads, TX in 1980 after his military career led to a job appointment at Texas Instruments. He held the position at T.I. until he retired in 1998. The day after his retirement he moved back to his roots and settled in Bassett. Chuck worked several part-time jobs in and around Bassett. He was a familiar face at the Bassett Country Club taking care of the golf course; worked for his brother, Tom DeVall, for a short stint at Perfect Circle Irrigation; and drove a fertilizer truck for Helena. During his free time, Chuck enjoyed his puzzles, listening to Nebraska football and various other sports, fishing with his brothers, and found much enjoyment in gardening and canning. Chuck is survived by: his son, Chad (Tracy) and family of Hamilton, MT; daughter, Teresa of Oklahoma and her family; daughter, Venessa and her family; brothers, Ed (Lotti) DeVall of Ainsworth and family; Harold (Janice ) DeVall of Bassett and family; Bob (Bonnie) DeVall of Inman, NE and family; sisters, Helen Bartlett of Bassett, Linda DeVall of Ainsworth and family, Iona (Rick) Anderson of Bassett and family; nieces, nephews and cousins. This is Chuck’s request to be cremated with no formal services. Hoch Funeral Home of Bassett assisted with the arrangements.
