Robert T. Stevens, age 88, passed away on January 5, 2017 at Pine View Good Samaritan Center in Valentine, NE. Memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church, Valentine Senior Center or to the Donor’s Choice. Holmes Funeral Home of Valentine is entrusted with the arrangements.
Bob was born on November 18, 1928 in Middlebranch, NE. He was the son of Elizabeth (Conard) and Ralph Dalton Stevens. He graduated from high school in Page, NE in 1946.
Robert (Bob) Stevens was a beloved father, granddad, greatgranddad and a dear friend to many in Valentine, O’Neill and Page, NE and Winner, SD. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, competitive shooting and showing special attention to his steady hunting companions: Sport, Fritz and other wonderful hunting dogs.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine and her children: Kay (Dick) Sokol and Kristi (Randy) Lurz.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Inez (Albright) Stevens and is survived by their sons: Tom (Valerie) Stevens of Colorado Springs, CO; Dennis Stevens and Robert (Sherry) Stevens, both of Anderson, IN and Jeffery (Linda) Stevens of Parker, AZ; numerous grandchildren and grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil and Laverne, and stepdaughter, Kim (Neil) Wescott.
Bob served in the Army National Guard from 7 March 1949 to 1 September 1988, first in the NE Guard where he attained the rank of First Lieutenant, Armor and then in the SD Guard where he attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. Throughout this tenure of service, Robert displayed only the highest of military standards in all facets of his duties. The “Highlight” of his career as a Food Service Manager was in winning the coveted Connely Award for Best Field Kitchen in the Army National Guard. Bob was a lifetime member of the Valentine American Legion Post #90. He was the assistant manager at Ideal Market for many years. Later, he became a locksmith and assisted many motorists. Bob was baptized and confirmed on March 27, 1994, and was a very active member of the church.
