Charles R. Sharp, 93
Charles Richard Sharp, of Wakefield, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 30, 2017, at the age 93. Memorial Services were 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2017, at the Wakefield Presbyterian Church in Wakefield. Visitation was Thursday, May 4, 2017 and Prayer Service at the Church. Burial will be at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home of South Sioux City. Charles was born June 29, 1923, in Norden to Charles Franklin Sharp and Mary Leona (Lawrence) Sharp. Charles married JoAnn Gray on June 1, 1949, in Valentine at the Methodist Church. Charles graduated from Correspondence School, the American Schools, out of Chicago, IL in 1968. Charles enlisted in the Marine Corps at age 21. He was in the Marine Corps from July 1944 to August 1946. His highest rank was Corporal. Charles is a veteran of World War II and arrived to Okinawa on April 1, 1945, aboard the USS Arenac. After the war Charles was a rancher in Valentine and Obert, and Millboro, SD. He then worked for the State of Nebraska Game and Parks Commission at the Valentine Fish Hatchery. Charles again worked for the State of Nebraska Game and Parks Commission at Ponca State Park from 1967 to 1973. In 2003, Charles retired as a veterinarian assistant for Michael Foods in Wakefield, NE. In his 93 years of life, Charles called Nebraska home. Valentine, Ponca, and Wakefield were just some of the places Charles and JoAnn called home. Charles is survived by his wife, JoAnn Sharp of Wakefield, NE; three daughters: Charliss Marshall (Lincoln); Corliss Hassler and Steve Hassler (Emerson); Nancy Wagner and Larry Wagner (Fremont, NE); two sons, James Sharp and Jill Sharp (Dakota City); Jeremy Grace and Amy Grace (South Sioux City); 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; Sister Doris Sims (Sierra Vista, AZ); and brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Gail Gray (Newcastle, WY). Charles was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Leonard Sharp, and sister, Phyllis Sharp.
