Lela, the youngest of eight children, grew up on the family farm near Herrick. Her family were members of the German Congregational Church near Carlock until the church closed. She attended elementary school in Herrick and graduated in 1957 from Burke High School. For many of her younger years she had osteomyelitis of the jaw bone. This caused her a great deal of suffering. With God’s touch and a surgical procedure she recovered in her later teens. Her first job was at the Northwestern Security National Bank in Gregory. She worked in the old bank and later the new bank which is presently BankWest. After marriage she worked in the bank at Murdo, as a bookkeeper at an Exxon Station in Montana, and was the head bailiff in Divide County North Dakota where she also assisted in jury selection, was employed in the Clerk of Courts office and also worked part-time in a restaurant. She was united in marriage to Allen Bouslaugh on November 27, 1964 in Gregory. To this union two children were born: James and Lealyn. Allen and Lela began their married life at Murdo. They served Assemblies of God churches in Minnesota, Montana, Colorado, North Dakota, Iowa, and South Dakota. Music was a huge part of Lela’s life and ministry. She conducted choirs, presenting holiday cantatas as well as arranging patriotic and other musical programs. She was an excellent pianist, organist, and accordianist. She and Allen sang duets often. She also loved flowers and yard work. She was also known for the walks she took. In 2008 she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and following surgery was given chemo therapy. In the years following she had cancer in five or six areas of her body. She passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Avera Rosebud Country Care Center in Gregory at 77 years of age. Besides her parents, Lela was preceded in death by her brothers, Harold and Alfred Wetzler, and three sisters: Lorene Jensen, Leona Faust, and Irma Wells. She is survived by her husband Allen of Gregory, son James (Laura) Bouslaugh, daughter Lealyn Cook; five grandchildren: Garrett, Allison, Kasey, and Karris Bouslaugh and Jace Cook, all of Sedalia, MO; two sisters, Laura Odenbach of Billings, MT and Esther Krueger of Fort Collins, CO; two sisters-in-law, Pat Wetzler of Herrick and Betty Wortman of Gregory; a brother-in-law, Leonard Krueger of Fort Collins, CO, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
