Denise Averill

Funeral services for Denise Averill were held on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Kirk Funeral Home with Pastor Morris Nelson officiating. Inurnment will be Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Kirk Funeral Home of Rapid Citywas in charge of arrangements. Denise was born April 7, 1958 to Dennis and Virginia Soesbe. She grew up on the family farm in Gregory. Denise dedicated ten years of heryoung life to the North West Rangers 4H Club. She enjoyed gardening with her mom and driving the tractor with her dad. Denise’s first job was at Stukel’s Café working part-time while attending school and switching to full time during summer breaks. When Denise was 18, she married her first husband Robert Nelson.From this union two daughters were born, Starla and Bobbie. Moving to Rapid City in 1985 Denise met Airman Chris Averill from St. Paul, MN. They were wed in July 1986. Denise was now an Air Force wife and happy to take on that role. Three years later the family was transferred to Hahn Air Force Base in West Germany. While there, Denise volunteered her time as a Red Cross teacher’s aide, bus monitor and chaperoned many of the girls’ numerous field trips. In 1993 they were once again transferred, this time to Great Falls, MT. There, Denise worked at the Base Exchange (BX) then later at Target maintaining her resume as a customer service specialist. The family transferred back to Rapid City where they planted their roots and purchased a home in Black Hawk. Denise was able to transfer from the Great Falls Target to the Rapid City Target where she worked until her declining health prevented her from doing so. Denise stayed home in Black Hawk until additional health care was required. In 2015 Denise was moved to a nursing home in Rapid City where she remained until her death.Denise Anne Averill (Soesbe), age 59, passed away Monday, June 12,2017. Survivors include her husband, Chris Averill; daughters, Starla Nelson (Jason), Bobbie Nelson (Brice); mother, Virginia Soesbe; brothers, Brett Soesbe and Jordy Soesbe; and four grandchildren: Brodie, Kristina, Ethin, and Kiana. Denise was preceded in death by her father, Dennis; her younger sister, Lisa; and oldest brother, Bob.
