1945 Football team was the only undefeated unscored upon team in Valentine school history

Fall is in the air. School is back in session. Our sports teams have been practicing for weeks in preparation of their upcoming seasons. Many of them will have their first competitions this week. There is simply no better time to reminisce about the past to fire us all up for the seasons to come.

The first Valentine football team, on record, was fielded in 1902 with 11 players. Even then, it wasn’t considered an organized sport. Basically, a local young man who knew something about football volunteered to teach some boys what he knew. The players provided their own uniform and played without helmets. The schedule consisted of only one game that year and ended in a scoreless tie.
