Funeral services for Dean Myers were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 30, 2018 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Rapid City.
Interment with military honors was held in the Black Hills National Cemetery. Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Dean was born on March 22, 1921 in Hudson, the son of Jay and Anne (Swanson) Myers. He grew up in the Dixon community and graduated from Dallas High School in 1938. Dean attended SD State College and worked in Minnesota prior to entering the US Army Air Corps in 1942. He was honorably discharged from the army as a 2nd Lt., Infantry.
Dean married Marvel A. Sausele in Jackson, MN on April 21, 1945. They had two children; Ronald and Marilyn.
In 1950, he became the rural mail carrier at Dixon. Dean became a life underwriter for Aid Association for Lutherans in 1959 and they moved to Rapid City. In 1967, Dean was appointed to manage the AAL Agency for western South Dakota and Nebraska. While in Rapid City, Dean was president of the Black Hills Life Underwriters Association, the SD State Life Underwriters Association and the SD State Fraternal Congress. In 1977, Dean was transferred to Fergus Falls, MN to manage the AAL Agency until 1986 when her retired and they moved to Santa Fe, NM.
In 1992 Dean and Marvel returned to Rapid City. During the time in Rapid City, some winter months were spent in Mesa, AZ.
Throughout his life, Dean was detail oriented in his professional and personal life. He was blessed with a prodigious memory that served him well. His family will miss that aspect of him, of which they depended upon for so many things. Dean was very involved in his church and loved his family. He made friends easily and frequently. Dean will be remembered for his kindness and his gentlemanly bearing.
Dean R. Myers, 97, of Rapid City, died Monday, July 16, 2018 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marvel, in 2011, his parents, Jay and Anne Myers, his brothers; Max Myers, Keith Myers and his son-inlaw, Dennis Bendt.
Survivors include his son, Ronald Myers, Santa Fe, NM, his daughter, Marilyn Bendt, Rapid City, four grandchildren: Holly Myers (Tom Gray), Santa Fe, NM, Elizabeth (David) Wofford, and their daughter, Jillian, Sahuarita, NM, Andrew Bendt, Ft Collins, CO and Alexander Bendt, Grand Island, NE and numerous nieces and nephews.
