Funeral services for Donal Baldwin were held on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Calvary Bible Church in Bonesteel, SD with Pastor Russ Grim officiating.
Music was provided by Becky Alford, Kay Don Jons and Joel Jons, vocalists, accompanied by Jackie Lindgren and Becky Alford, organists. Rhonda Grim was in charge of registration.
Casket bearers were Matthew Herrmann, Stephen Herrmann, Dan Herrmann, Steve Singer, Mike Baldwin, and John Baldwin. Honorary casket bearers were all of those who helped on the ranch over the years.
Interment was in the Rosebud Cemetery in Bonesteel, SD. Clausen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Donald Dwayne Baldwin was born May 24, 1926 at Bonesteel, SD, to Rubin and Frieda (Schroeder) Baldwin. Don grew to manhood on the family farm south of Bonesteel and attended country school. He graduated from Bonesteel High School in 1943.
On January 9, 1950 he was united in marriage to Shirley Unglaub and they farmed east of Bonesteel until his induction into the armed forces during the Korean War. After basic training and schooling on the signal corps at Camp Gordon, GA, he was transferred to Fort Meyer, VA. He and his wife moved to Annandale, VA and he worked for a year in the Communications Department of the Pentagon. He was then transferred to Eniwetok in the Marshall Islands where he remained until his discharge.
Upon returning home, he purchased land north of Bonesteel and went back to farming and ranching, which he loved. He continued operating his ranch until he entered the Haisch Haus and later the Butte Healthcare Center in 2013.
He died April 2, 2019 at the Butte Healthcare Center in Butte, NE, at the age of 92 years.
Don is survived by his daughters: Rhonda of Phoenix, AZ and Debra and husband Dan Herrmann of Marshall, MN; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; nephews, several cousins and a host of greatnieces and great-nephews.
