Germaine Garwood, 84
Germaine ‘Geri’ Garwood passed away June 2, 2019. She was born in Rosebud, SD to George and Julia (DeCory) Rogers on May 9, 1935. She graduated high school from St. Francis, SD and earned her teaching certificate from Chadron State College.
Geri’s first teaching job took her north of Whitman where she taught K-8th grades in a one-room school house. She met Dick Garwood at a neighborhood dance. They dated three months and were married on June 30, 1955.
Dick and Geri shared 40 years together and had seven children: Lorna Garwood of Whitman, Steve Garwood of Valentine, Teddy Michael, Christy Fester of Alliance, Carolyn Garwood, Robin (Darrel) Seidler of Hyannis and James Garwood of Hyannis; 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; two sisters-in-law: Ellen Shackleford and Maryann Lincoln; and many nieces and nephews.
Geri was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dick; infant son Teddy; daughter Carolyn; nine sisters and five brothers; her parents-in-law; two brothers-inlaw; and one sister-in-law.
Rosary and Prayer Service was held Wednesday evening followed by Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2019 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Valentine. Interment was at Whitman Cemetery, Whitman. Holmes Funeral Home of Valentine was entrusted with the arrangements.
