Richard L. Monnier

Richard Lee Monnier was born May 11, 1930 on a ranch south o f Kilgoreto George and Goldie (Couser) Monnier. He attended school at Plum Brush near his home and graduated from Kilgore High School in 1948. In 1951, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served until he received an honorable discharge following the death of his father. He then returned to the Monnier Ranch to help his family. He married his sweetheart Alice Faubion in Cody on December 28, 1952. They lived on the ranch south of Kilgore for a couple of years and then moved to Lincoln. He was a mechanic at American Stores Packing Plant for 28 years. December 1959, they purchased their farm near Raymond, NE where they raised their family, farmed and cattle. He built their home, farm sheds, corrals, and some of the farm equipment. He resided there until his death. He loved playing music with his family which led to the creation of the family band, “The Midnite Sun,” who played many dates in the late 60s and 70s. He loved his family, spending time with them, vacationing, attending Grand Ole Opry shows, music festivals, and rodeos. He played his mandolin at jam sessions and parades locally and in Texas where he wintered, until his death. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice (Faubion) Monnier; his brothers, Robert (Shirley) and Clifford Monnier; son-in-law, Kevin Mason; and his special friend, Betty Wolfe. Richard is survived by his children; Janice (Kerry) Stuhmer of Central City, Jeanne (Dr. Dennis) Pestal of Fort Calhoun, Donna Mason of Weeping Water, and Jimmy (Nancy) Monnier of Raymond; brothers; Donald Monnier of Bellevue, Merritt (Anita) Monnier of Casper, WY, and Jerry (Donna) Monnier of Nampa, ID, sisters; Edith (Pete) Peterson of Blue Springs, MO, and Mavis (Robert) Goodwin of North Platte, NE; sisters-in-law, Marlene Monnier of Hermantown, MN, Inga Gonzalez of Flower Mound, TX, Marlene Flowerday of Murfreesboro, TN, Joyce Comstock of Ankeny, IA; brothers-in-law, Dick Schied of Apache Junction, AZ, and Franklyn Faubion of Reed Springs, MO; 12 grandchildren; Travis (Kimberly) Stuhmer, Sarah (Ryan) Schoen, Tammy (Erik) Erickson, Samuel (Stephanie) Stuhmer, Joanna Stuhmer (fiancé, Curtis Heuermann), Dr. Justin (Melissa) Malone, Heather (Todd) Fredericksen, Jacob (Kimberly) Malone, Jacquelyn (Joshua) Dishman, Patrick (Desiree) Saxton, Nicholas Monnier, and Brent Monnier; 24 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation was held Sunday, July 2, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral Service was held Monday, July 3, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at United Lutheran Church, Lincoln. Interment was held at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials to: Raymond Fire Department, United Lutheran Church, Family to be used for a project to promote and preserve old time country music.
