Robert W. Gentry
Robert William Gentry of Hyannis, NE was born September 14, 1934, to Raymond Richard Gentry and Marguerite Frances (Dunkel) in Fremont, NE. He died on July 18, 2017, at his home. He was raised about 12 miles north of Hyannis on the A Bar C Ranch. He went to rural school, had some homeschooling and finished primary at Saint Agnes Academy in Alliance. He then went to Cranbrook Schools of Bloomfield Hills, MI, for six years, graduating in 1951. Bob returned to the ranch to help his dad raise cattle. He eventually took a risk of his own when he leased various tracts of land, including the old Ambler Rothwell and part of the old Dumbell Ranch. He then married Peggie Lee Wilcox of Hyannis and had two children, Christopher John and Molly Frances. He took advantage of an opportunity to purchase the part of the old Dumbell he had been leasing. Bob remarried to Lovina Jean (Crosley) in 1976 and welcomed Michael Charles Botts and Edward Malm as step-sons. Bob and Jean took on the lease from Raymond Gentry, joined the two ranches, moved to the main place and continued to expand the A Bar C Ranch into what it is today. Bob was a longtime member of the Grant County Historical Society. He quietly supported many causes and individuals, as the local community’s needs were very important to him. He was an old school rancher that was highly respected and often regarded as an ideal role model. He was humble and honest, to say the least. Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Marguerite; father, Raymond; half sister, Ardyss; half brother, John; step-son, Edward and daughter, Molly. Bob is survived by his son ,Christopher and wife Jeanne (Christen); his step-son, Michael and wife Beth (Naugle); grandchildren Eric and Emily; step-grandchildren, Ty, Michelle, Sherri and Michael Jr. Botts and Kim, Marnie and Shane Malm. Visitation was held on Sunday, July 23, 2017, with a Wake Service following at Calvary Episcopal Church in Hyannis. Visitation continued Monday, July 24 until service time at 2:00 p.m. MDT. Inurnment will be held at a later date by family. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to: Bob Gentry Memorial, Sandhills State Bank, 101 S Main, Hyannis, NE 69350.
