Ainsworth Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams Crowned SWC Champions
For the first time in school history, the Ainsworth Cross Country teams swept the girls and boys team championships at the Southwest Conference Cross Country Championships on Thursday, October 5th at Minden Country Club.
A rarity for any school in the conference, only five other teams in the thirty-seven year history of the SWC meet have ever pulled off the historic double win. Ainsworth would take advantage of the cool day and ran fast. In all, eleven high school harriers ran to personal records as seven all-conference performances were recorded on the day.
Ainsworth Girls Rylee Rice paced the Bulldogs in the first race of the day as she got out hard and pushed the pace in the damp, but cool low 60-degree temperatures. Rice would be rewarded for that quick pace as she established a new seasonal best time, while also establishing a new personal record time of 18:28.
That time would better Rice’s own overall 5k school record time of 18:34 she ran at last year’s state meet. In victory, Rice became the first female to successfully defend a conference title since Ainsworth’s own Mattea Gallegos won backto- back titles in the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
CeeAnna Beel raced well and received all-conference honors with her 6th place finish. Beel crossed the line in 20:50.
