Burke/Gregory wrestlers outperform Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon
The Burke/Gregory Storm’s dual against Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon (BH/S/A), rescheduled from January 29 to January 31 because of the dangerously cold weather, was worth the wait for the wrestlers as we were able to come away with a 42-38 victory, a very closely-contested match, with each team winning seven of the fourteen weight classes. The difference was in pin falls; Burke/ Gregory was able to come away with all seven of their victories by pin fall, whereas BH/S/A had a major decision and a couple technical falls in there as well. There were a lot of pin falls or tech falls in the match; there was one forfeit involved and a major decision, but other than that, all of the contests were either pin falls or tech falls.
Owen Hansen started us out on the right foot with a pin fall over Jackson Caba in 3:52. At 113 pounds, BH/S/A picked up a forfeit with Brady Bierema. That was the first of four consecutive victories that BH/S/A had. They won at 126 with Jordan Rueb over Mason Peck. They also won at 132 with Riley Hellmann winning a major decision over Mason Hood. This was a very well put-together match for Mason, however the score certainly didn’t show that. His efforts in avoiding those bonus points in taking the loss were instrumental in our overall ability to win the dual. So hats off to him for a tremendous effort in the work that he did in this weight class.
