Wrestlers finish season as seventh best in the state
The South Dakota High School Activities Association State Wresling Tournament was held in Rapid City over the weekend of February 22-23, 2019. The Burke/ Gregory team took eight wreslers to the tournament and were able to place four of the eight and come away with a seventh place plaque for their efforts.
Team scores were as follows: Canton set a new team record for points scored in a state tournament for Class B with 200 points; our neighbors to the west (Winner) finished in second place with 140.5 points; Redfield was third with 104; Wagner had 86; fifth place went to Custer/Edgemont with 84; sixth place was Howard with 78; and Burke/Gregory came in seventh with 76 points. Rounding out the top ten, Philip Area had 72.5 for eighth place; ninth place Kimball/White Lake/ Platte-Geddes had 72; and in tenth place was Parkston with 65.5.
In looking at those top ten, of hose ten schools, five came out of our region, which shows a very strong finish in state tournament action out of Region III.
