David (Dave) Dale Soper, 70
David (Dave) Dale Soper born July 10, 1948 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, joined “the spirit in the sky” on March 4, 2019, at Close to Home Hospice in Gillette, WY, after a short battle with cancer.
Dave moved to Nebraska as a young child and grew up in Cody. He loved the small-town camaraderie with his family and many friends. He graduated from Cody High School in 1966 and joined the Navy serving as radioman while stationed in Ethiopia. After his service he held various jobs including working in the copper mines, line man for REA, ranch hand, Bekins mover and lastly driving blade for Campbell County Road and Bridge in Gillette, WY.
On March 18, 1977, Dave married Susan Tystad in Batesland, SD. Dave prayed for two little girls of his own. On January 26, 1978 their first daughter, Jennifer Carol, was born and on September 11, 1981 their second daughter, Diana Beth, was born. Their husbands, Andrew Richert and LeRoy Kindsvogel, were treasured deeply by him. Dave truly loved and cherished his family. His grandkids were an especially bright spot in his life and he was happiest playing cards, games, playing LEGOS, setting up trains on the floor or just watching them do whatever they were doing!
Dave retired from the Campbell County Road and Bridge in July of 2014 after 32 years. He loved blading his roads and taking care of “his” people on “his” route. He drove Blade #107 and enjoyed every day. Dave loved to read, listening to “true” country music, playing cards (in his own “special way”), driving his Mustang, playing with his grandchildren, and visiting with everyone.
He is survived by his wife, Susan of 42 years; daughter, Jennifer (Andy) Richert of Gillette; daughter, Diana (Leroy) Kindsvogel of Gillette; grandchildren: Alexa, Jaxon and Daxton Richert and Emmitt and Lori Kindsvogel of Gillette; sister, Donna (Doug) Milburn of Rushville, NE; aunt Nancy of Massachusetts; aunt Bertha of Canada; numerous cousins, sistersin-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Stanley Soper.
Memorial Services were held Monday, March 11, 2019 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Gillette, WY at 10:30 a.m. There was a meal following at the church. Interment with military honors at the Black Hills National Cemetery at Sturgis, SD will be scheduled at a later date.
