Wood Lake’s 43rd annual BBQ, Centennial Parade and school reunion slated for July 28

The Bi-Centennial started it all. A handful of patriotic and civicminded Wood Lake residents from various organizations met to plan a celebration to honor our nation’s 200th birthday.

The committee agreed that an old-fashioned picnic sounded like a good idea and they were right. This is the 43rd year the Wood Lake BBQ and Street Dance has been held at the City Park and on Main Street the last Saturday of July, just like the first one in 1976.

According to Elsie Coble’s scrapbook, the first BBQ committee members were: Joe and Donnie Mundorf, John and Marilyn Cozad, Willa Marie Tische, Herman Gilliland and Waldo Osterman.
