The regular meeting of American Legion Post 79 was called to order by Commander Judy Walters at 7:30 p.m. with nine Legion members and one Son of the American Legion member present.

The beauty of the Niobrara River is currently on display at the Valentine Public Library, running now through May 21st. The show is hosted by the Sand Painters Art Club and the library.

The University of Nebraska- Lincoln conferred a record 3,885 degrees during commencement exercises May 8-9. The 3,762 graduates - also a record - are from 61 countries; 45 U.S.

Students from Ainsworth Community Schools represented their school at the Niobrara Valley Conference Art Show held at St. Mary’s Grade School Gym on Friday, May 1st, showcasing both creativity and dedication among the conference’s young artists.

Brett Knoetzel and Nick Martin shared the top spot Thursday during opening night of men’s league golf at the Ainsworth Golf Course with 1-over par rounds of 37. Knoetzel and Martin finished one shot ahead of Graig Kinzie, who posted a round of 38. Chuck Whitney, Troy Brodbeck and Landon Welke finished with rounds of 39.

Across Nebraska, youth programs supported by the Nebraska Beef Council are helping students connect the dots between agriculture, food, and their everyday lives. From classrooms to campuses, these initiatives are creating meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that leave a lasting impact. One standout effort is the Ag Sack Lunch Program, coordinated by Ginger Jelinek, who is finishing her third year in the role. Focused on fourth grade students, the program combines a meal with agricultural education.

After three weeks of shooting, 1st Class leads with 615, followed by Mob County with 577, and in third place is Weed Wackers with 544. Harrison Ferrier Service ties the third place team with 544, Buckley Steel has 536, and Doug’s Mobile Service has 535.
