Commissioners and City Council Hold Meeting Regarding Sandhills Care Center Update Project

The Ainsworth City Council and Brown County Commissioners agreed to have the Sandhills Care Center Board of Directors pursue a feasibility study and market analysis for the construction of a new nursing home facility after an architect provided the group with options for either attempting to renovate the current building or moving forward with a new building.

Nebraska Game and Parks Urges Public to Check Aquariums for Invasive Zebra Mussels

After a recent discovery of invasive zebra mussels within Marimo or “moss” balls used in aquarium tanks, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is urging the public to take precautions to prevent the spread of this highly destructive species.

Dormant Spraying Alfalfa Weeds

As our weather warms, alfalfa producers are reminded to eliminate weeds in their fields before plants break dormancy. Herbicides for controlling winter annual weeds such as pennycress, mustards, and shepherd's purse should be applied before alfalfa regrowth reaches 2 inches of height. If alfalfa shoots are green when sprayed, its growth may be set back a couple weeks.

Not all trees require staking, in fact staking a tree that doesn’t need to be or leaving the stakes in place longer than one growing season can do more harm than good. A new tree needs support when it has an unusually small root system, the trunk bends excessively in the wind or it is planted in a very windy site.
