April 12th There were three written warnings for speeding given to drivers on Highway 20. A traffic stop was made on Highway 20.

Ministerial Alliance Gives Thanks to Food Pantry Volunteers

On behalf of the Ainsworth Ministerial Alliance and the community of Ainsworth I want to say a heartfelt “thank you” to the volunteers who faithfully administer the community food pantry. This ministry has operated for well over 20 years.

Ainsworth Community Schools Art Club Visits the Sandhills Care Center

On April 8, 25 students from the Ainsworth Community Schools Art Club participated in a day of service and creativity at the Sandhills Care Center. The students walked to the facility in the morning and spent the day painting a total of 25 windows for residents and staff.

Ainsworth Students to Compete at District Music Contest

Ainsworth High School choir and band members will travel to O’Neill on Friday, April 24, for the district music contest. The contest is open to viewers and will take place at O’Neill High School in various rooms.

Cherry County Hospital to Host Brake for Breakfast

Community members in north central Nebraska are invited to “Brake for Breakfast,” a free drive-thru event focused on cancer prevention, on Friday, April 24, from 7 - 9 a.m. in the west parking lot of Cherry County Hospital.

Legislative Notes

Capitol Report: A Session of Action and Vetoes The 109th Nebraska Legislature concluded Friday, April 17, with two key outcomes: passing a balanced budget and upholding the Governor’s vetoes. I was able to get 11 bills passed this session including LB 1195, which provides a direct benefit to counties across Nebraska.

Another Legislative Session in the Books, Along with Another Budget Crisis Averted Some State Capitol watchers say they can’t relax until state legislators go home for the year. As a reporter who chased the occupants of the “Hall of Hot Winds” for too many decades, I can attest that the fire drill-like finish to legislative sessions leaves you ready for something different.
