Brown County Ambulance Service Receives LifePak Defibrillators

The Brown County Ambulance Association recently trained and put into service two state-of-the-art LifePak35 defibrillators on March 11. Fundraising for the project (amounting to $85,362), was completed in the fall of last year.

Simple Ways to Close the State Budget Gap Dismissed 

Way back in the day, when I was in high school, I had a summer job of mopping floors at a local hospital. 

Being a janitor was a really satisfying job because when you were done, you could easily see what you had accomplished, unlike a lot of other occupations. 

Anyway, one of my compatriots on the broom was a guy named Howard Johnson. Howard was as big as an actual Howard Johnson’s and he had an axiom for work: “the simplest way is the best way.”

Nebraska Wildfires 

When I headed home on Thursday afternoon, I thought that the focus of this week’s column would be the budget battle taking place in Lincoln. 

That’s what I was prepared to write about. 

Somewhere between Broken Bow and Dunning late Thursday afternoon, the focus for not just myself but thousands of other Nebraskans changed. 

Fires began to break out across the state, the largest being in western Nebraska.

Wildlife Captures Providing Insights to Big Game Species

Wildlife officials bolstered research and monitoring efforts of big game species in Nebraska with the help of a contracted helicopter crew in February. Mule Deer In mid-February, 58 mule deer were fitted with tracking collars or solar ear tags in the Wildcat Hills for a study aimed at investigating the impact of chronic wasting disease in the species.

NDOT Reminds Residents Campaign Signs Are Not Allowed on State Right-of-Way

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is reminding the public that it is unlawful to place political campaign signs, or any signs, on state highway and interstate right-of-way. This includes intersections, medians, entrance and exit ramps, sidewalks and the ditches and lands that make up the right-of-way bordering the length of each roadway.

Team Jack Gala Raises Over $800,000 for Childhood Brain Cancer Research

Nearly 700 supporters gathered in Lincoln for the 13th annual Team Jack Gala presented by Fat Brain Toys, raising more than $800,000 for childhood brain cancer research. Former Nebraska running back and current NFL player Ameer Abdullah welcomed attendees and helped kick off the evening, which highlighted the mission of the Team Jack Foundation and the urgent need for research funding.
