Randall “Randy” Schwindt, 76, of Ainsworth, passed away at his home with his family by his side on Sunday, June 14. Randy was born on August 23, 1949, in Scottsbluff, to Robert and Betty (Schwartzkopf) Schwindt. He graduated from Fort Morgan (Colo.) High School in 1967.
In 1967, he was united in marriage to Leann Crow in Fort Morgan. Randy spent the majority of his life in agriculture, and farming and ranching were his first loves. He began working on the family farm alongside his grandfather and father before moving on to manage a dairy operation in Longmont, Colo. His dream of ranching and raising beef cattle brought him to Ainsworth in 1979, where he managed Lost Lake Ranch for Bob Allen. His love for the area kept him and his family there for the remainder of his life. After his ranch management career, Randy drove truck and worked at Daniels Manufacturing. Recognizing a need in the area, he started a sandblasting and painting business in 1988, which he operated for many years until declining health forced his retirement.
On their acreage west of Ainsworth, Randy and Leann planted many pine and spruce trees that were later sold as Christmas trees and landscaping. Randy loved to work and, even as his health declined, took great pride in keeping his acreage mowed and well maintained up to his final days. Randy was a member of the Elks Lodge, where he enjoyed grilling for the steak feeds. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Sandhills Iron Horse Riders. He served on the rural fire board. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, traveling to visit family and friends, going to the casino, and collecting and restoring old tractors.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother. Those left to cherish his memory include his three children Richard (Karma) Schwindt of Ainsworth and their children Ryan (Leah) Schwindt, Kylie Schwindt, and Breanna Schwindt; Jennifer (Eric) Moseley of Grand Island and their children Ashley (Morgan) Robbins, Jacob Moseley, and Nathan Moseley, and Clayton (Jill) Schwindt of Hoschton, Ga., and their children Abigail Schwindt, Madison Schwindt, and Caleb Schwindt. Randy is also survived by three great-grandchildren; two sisters Cynthia Schwindt of Watkinsville, Ga. and Barbara Murray of Speedwell, Tenn.; along with many nieces, nephews, and friends who mourn his passing.
A graveside service was held on Friday, June 19, in the East Park Cemetery near Ainsworth with Pastor Gary Graesser as the officiant. The CD Selection of “Go Rest High On That Mountain” by Vince Gill was played. Casket bearers were Rich, Clayton and Ryan Schwindt and Eric, Jacob and Nathan Moseley. Honorary casket bearers were Kylie, Breanna, Abigail, Madison, Caleb and Leah Schwindt and Ashley and Morgan Robbins. Memorials were suggested to the Ainsworth Senior Center in Randy’s name. Hoch Funeral Home of Ainsworth was entrusted with the arrangements and online condolences may be left for the family at www.hochfuneralhome.com.
